Heavy Snow

If heavy snow is forecast, ensure that the standby fan is working and prepare to turn it on manually. If a snow build up does begin to occur, the following actions should be taken:

  • Manually turn on the standby fan to raise the internal pressure.

  • Attempt to physically remove the snow using long poles or by passing a rope over the dome and dragging it backwards and forwards across the top.

  • If more than 20mm of snow accumulates, the nets must be lowered and all other internal objects moved towards the revolving door.

  • Consider hiring one or more gas space heaters to raise the dome temperature and melt the snow.

If the snow accumulation continues and the dome collapses to the ground, the fan units should be turned off immediately. After the snow has melted, the membrane must be checked for signs of damage and advice from Covair Structures should be obtained before re-inflating the dome.
