Strong Winds

In the event of strong winds, the following actions should be taken:

  • Ensure that the generator fuel tank/propane bottle is full.

  • Ensure that the emergency door (if fitted) is securely fastened and that there are no excessive air losses anywhere.

  • Remove all objects within one metre of the membrane, both inside and outside. Prepare to lower the nets in the event of and extreme wind.

In the event of an extreme wind (above 60mph) the following additional actions should be taken:

  • Evacuate the dome and ensure that no one either enters or stays too close.

  • Ensure that the standby fan unit is in operation.

  • Observe and record the behaviour of the dome during the storm, and note the deflections and movements, particularly around the doors and anchor positions.

  • Should the storm intensify, prepare to lower the nets and move all internal objects (chairs or dehumidifiers) close to the revolving door inside.

After the storm has passed, carry out a thorough inspection, equivalent to a weekly inspection (section 2.3), log all findings and report any damage to Covair Structures. Ensure all parts are restored to normal operation.
